Welcome to Year 1 – Peacock Class.
This year our class has chosen to be named after British Paralympic athlete Jonnie Peacock. Jonnie has overcome many challenges in life after having his lower right leg amputated at the age of 5. After watching the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, Jonnie was inspired to start his running career. Just 4 years later he was winning gold at his home Olympics in London, becoming the fastest amputee runner over 100m. Since then, he has won a further 3 Paralympic medals as well as learning to dance and competing in strictly come dancing and helping child amputees learn to run.
He is an inspiration to us because he has never let his disability slow him down or stop him from achieving his dreams. In fact, he feels that his life is better for the loss as he would have otherwise missed out on many of the fantastic experiences he has enjoyed.
